Data Cleansing: General Overview

Video Guide

Overview

The Cleansing & Standardization module in Match Data Pro is designed to help you prepare your data for high confidence matching using smart cleansing, standardization, and normalization rules. To get started, add the cleansing module to your project and click the Configure button. On the configuration page you will find six cleansing categories, each containing a variety of cleansing options. For most options, you begin by selecting a data source followed by one or more columns โ€” if the option supports multiple column selection, simply hold the Control key and select several columns at once.

Applying and Managing Your Rules

Once you have configured your desired cleansing rules, click Save to add them to the rule list on the right side of the page. From there, click Run Rules to start the cleansing process. The menu gives you quick access to the following options:

  1. Here you can see the Save button and the rule list on the right side of the page
  2. Notice the Run Rules button which will trigger the cleansing process in the background
  3. The menu shown here exposes additional options for managing your rules
  4. Here you can see the Delete Rules option to clear your list and start over

Saving and Loading Templates

The Save Template option allows you to save your entire or partial rule set under a name and description for use with other data sources in the future. Saving and loading a saved template is just as straightforward:

  • For saving
    • From the 3 dot menu, save all rules as a template
    • From the Edit Rule List
  • Here you can see the data source dropdown where you select the target source for your template
  • Notice the fuzzy column mapping that Match Data Pro automatically generates to align your data
  • Here you can see the manual column mapping dropdowns available if you need to make adjustments
  • Once you click Load, the rule list shown here will populate with your saved rules

Editing Your Rule Set

The Edit Rule Set option gives you a full view of all the rules added to your data source. From here you can:

  1. Here you can see all your rules listed with drag handles for reordering execution
  2. Notice how selecting individual rules activates the Delete and Save Template options shown here
  3. Here you can see the targeted Save Template option which saves only your selected rules rather than the full list

Previewing and Using Your Cleansed Data

Once your rules have finished running, you will have the option to preview records to confirm that everything has been applied correctly. Match Data Pro automatically creates a new data source named after your original file with an underscore cleansed suffix added to the end. This cleansed data source is immediately available for:

  • Here you can see the Preview Records option and a sample of your cleansed data
  • Notice the new cleansed data source appearing in the data source list with the underscore cleansed suffix
  • Here you can see the cleansed data source now available as an input for matching, profiling, additional cleansing, or exporting
